About Redwood Falls

The land where Redwood Falls sits was opened to settlers in 1864, when Colonel Sam McPhail arrived and built a log cabin and a sod stockade by the Redwood River. He started the town's first newspaper and gave land for the county courthouse when the town became the Redwood County seat in 1872. A railroad reached it in 1878, and a mill owner dammed the river in 1903 to make Lake Redwood and bring electric power. Today people come for Alexander Ramsey Park, the big city park with its waterfall, and for downtown events like Fall Festival.
