About Goodhue
Goodhue began as a railroad town in the farm country between Red Wing and Rochester. In 1888 and 1889 crews built the Duluth, Red Wing and Southern line, and as many as 600 workers lived in tents and barracks here; in 1889 grain dealer T.B. Sheldon platted the village, and it voted to incorporate in 1897. When the rail camps left, Goodhue stayed on as a trading town for the farms around it. Today about 1,250 people live here, many in new homes built since the 1990s. Neighbors meet at the Wednesday farmers market, the Volksfest, the Goodhue German Christmas, and the Goodhue Area History Museum with its farm machines and railroad photos.
