About Lake Delton

Lake Delton began as a small place called Norris, named for the man who surveyed it in 1850, and later went by Delton and then Mirror Lake. In 1927 a Chicago builder, William Newman, dammed Dell Creek to make a lake for a resort, and the village took the lake's name and became a village in 1954. After World War II the lake drew crowds to water-ski shows, and in time the strip along the parkway filled with waterparks and resorts. Today families splash in the waterparks, boat and fish on the lake, and explore neighboring Wisconsin Dells.
