About Reedsburg
Reedsburg began beside a Baraboo River crossing the Ho-Chunk had long used, where James Babb settled in 1845 and David C. Reed built a dam and a sawmill two years later. The railroad came in 1872, a big woolen mill followed in 1882, and the town later grew famous for its butter, which is why it still throws Butterfest every year. The old 1906 train depot is now the start of the 400 State Trail, a 22-mile bike and hiking path to Elroy on the old rail line. Today families picnic at free Wednesday concerts in City Park, walk the brick Main Street, and drive out each fall for Fermentation Fest's farm-and-art tour.
