About Mahtomedi

Mahtomedi was platted in July 1883 by the First Mahtomedi Assembly of the Chautauqua Association, a summer school and lecture camp on the east shore of White Bear Lake. Its name comes from the Dakota name for the lake. Visitors came by train and later by streetcar, and a big tabernacle and amusement park filled the shore for decades. Today it is a lakeside suburb with its own school district, whose Zephyrs teams are known across the state.
