About Lake Elmo
Lake Elmo began as a stage stop and a few farms in the 1840s and 1850s, and it was once called Bass Lake. A railroad promoter renamed the lake and village in 1879, and city people rode out for summer days by the water. Later it became a dairy and shipping village, and the city still keeps a rural feel with farms, a big park reserve and a small old village. Today neighbors gather for a Kids 4th of July Parade, a Saturday farmers market and Third Wednesday strolls downtown.
