About Byron

Byron was laid out in 1864 and was named by George Van Dusen for his birthplace in New York. A small settlement called Bear Grove stood just west of today's town before it grew. The railroad reached the area in 1865 and a station was rebuilt in 1883, and the town became a city in 1873. Byron has grown fast since 1960, from about 660 people to 6,312 in 2020. Today it is a busy town near Rochester with parks, a zoo nearby, and a calendar of yearly festivals.
