About Tomah

Robert Gillett founded Tomah in 1855 on the South Fork of the Lemonweir River, and it became a city in 1883. Its name comes from Chief Tomah, the name the Menominee gave to Thomas Carron, a trader at Green Bay. Railroads and later the meeting of Interstates 90 and 94 made Tomah a crossroads, and cartoonist Frank King, who drew Gasoline Alley, grew up here. Today families fish and paddle on Lake Tomah at Winnebago Park, visit the 1916 Carnegie library on Superior Avenue, and fill Recreation Park each June for one of the country's best-known truck and tractor pulls.
