About Alexandria
Alexandria was first settled in 1858 and named for brothers Alexander and William Kinkead; the name echoes Alexandria, Egypt, a place of learning. It sits among a chain of lakes in Douglas County and is known for the Kensington Runestone, found by a farmer nearby in 1898, and for Big Ole, a Viking statue on the shore of Lake Agnes. Today neighbors shop the Saturday farmers market, enjoy live music, parades and plays, and spend summers on the lakes.
