About Arcadia
Arcadia was founded in 1855 on a hill above the Trempealeau River valley, but when the Green Bay and Western Railroad laid its tracks down in the valley, the town grew along the line instead. A flour mill was started in 1858, and in 1906 the town built a Carnegie library that still stands. Today Arcadia is the largest city in Trempealeau County and the home of Ashley Furniture, and families from many backgrounds, many of them Latino, have made it grow fast in recent years. People gather at the 54-acre Memorial Park, where the Soldiers Walk memorial lines a path with statues and the three-day Ashley for the Arts festival fills the lawn with music each summer.
