About Bloomer
In 1848 Jeremiah Bloomer and a group of men from Galena, Illinois, built a mill here, but he sold the dam that winter and went home. Settlers came in 1855, and the place was called Vanville until 1867, when it was surveyed and platted and took the Bloomer name. Bloomer is known for its yearly jump rope contest, and after it was shown on national television the town got the nickname 'rope jump capital of the world.' Today families visit the G.E. Bleskacek Family Memorial Library for programs like cooking with apples, and walk past the granite city hall from 1914 on Main Street.
