About Bloomington

Bloomington sits on the north bank of the Minnesota River, where Dakota families lived at Oak Grove long before farms came. In 1843 a farmer named Peter Quinn and a missionary, Gideon Pond, built the first cabins of the new settlement, and Pond later baked bricks on the spot for a house that still stands. The little farm town became a city in 1960 and then the home ground of the Twins and Vikings until 1981. Today people know it for the Mall of America, a big park system, Hyland Hills' ski runs and a lively farmers market.
