About Richfield

Richfield sits just south of Minneapolis, near Fort Snelling and the airport. Farmers settled here in the 1850s and sold fresh vegetables to the big city next door; Riley Bartholomew built a house on Wood Lake in 1852 that is still standing. The people who met in a schoolhouse in 1858 chose the name Richfield. After World War II, farmland became thousands of small homes for returning soldiers. Today people come for Wood Lake Nature Center, one of the first urban nature centers in the country, and for the bike lanes on 66th Street.
