About Edina

Edina grew from a farming and milling community along Minnehaha Creek in the 1860s. Settlers from Ireland, New England and Germany claimed the land, and in 1888 the village broke away from Richfield Township and chose the name Edina, 47 votes to 42. Southdale Center opened in 1956 as the first fully enclosed, climate-controlled mall in the country. Today Edina is known for its parks, its ice hockey and its schools.
