About St. Louis Park

St. Louis Park took its name from the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway, and became a village in 1886. In 1899 the world's first round concrete grain elevator went up here, and it still stands. After World War II the town boomed, with Minnesota's first shopping center and thousands of new homes, and it became a city in 1954. Today it is a first-ring suburb just west of Minneapolis, known for its Parktacular festival, free summer concerts at the Veterans' Memorial Amphitheater, and the Holiday Train stop in December.
