About Bonduel
Bonduel began as a crossroads that early news reports called Hartland Corners, after the town of Hartland around it. When the people asked for a post office in 1864, the name Hartland was already taken in Wisconsin, so the place was named for Father Florimond Bonduel, a Catholic missionary who worked with the Menominee people. Farming carried the village for many years, and the railroad's arrival in the late 1800s helped it grow before it became a village in 1916. The village calls itself the home of the Bears, after an old story that two bears once came to Father Bonduel's defense. Today families come out for the village's Fourth of July parade and fireworks, story time at the branch library, and the playgrounds at Cedar Park and Village Park.
