About Gillett
Gillett is named for Rodney Gillett, one of its first settlers, who was elected chairman at the town's first election in 1868 and ran the first post office out of his home. The town grew quickly after a railroad from Oconto to Clintonville came through in 1884, became a village of about 400 people in 1900, and a city in 1944. Its Main Street still has many historic buildings, and the Oconto County Fair fills Zippel Park each August. Today it calls itself the ATV Capital of the World, with miles of riding trail right in town, a K-12 school and parks for families.
