About Brooklyn Center

Brooklyn Center began when settlers set up Brooklyn Township and Crystal Lake Township in 1858 along Osseo Road, a market-gardening area just north of Minneapolis. It became a village in 1911 and a charter city in 1966. In 1960 Brookdale, a big new shopping center, opened as the town grew past 24,000 people. Today the Mississippi River runs along its east side, Shingle Creek flows through its lakes, and the city keeps 26 parks and a 20-mile trail system.
