About Bryn Mawr
Bryn Mawr takes its name from Welsh words meaning 'big hill', and it sits just west of downtown Minneapolis. Before the 1960s many of its families worked at the nearby Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway yard. Today it is a quiet, mostly residential place almost ringed by parks: Theodore Wirth Park on the west, Bassett Creek on the north, Bryn Mawr Meadows on the east and Cedar Lake on the south. Little Brownie Lake, the northernmost of the city's Chain of Lakes, lies inside the neighborhood; it is named for the nickname of Agnes McNair, daughter of an early landowner. Each spring the Festival of Garage Sales brings more than 100 sales and visitors from across the Twin Cities.
