About Kenwood

Kenwood grew up in the late 1880s, after a rail line along Cedar Lake made the area easier to reach. It sits between Cedar Lake and Lake of the Isles, and it is known for the big old houses along its parkways, with views of the lakes and the downtown skyline. Its tallest landmark is the Kenwood Park Water Tower, a 110-foot brick and stone tower from 1910 that looks a bit like a fortress. TV fans know Kenwood too: the outside shots of Mary Richards' home on The Mary Tyler Moore Show were filmed at a house on Kenwood Parkway. Today people walk and bike the paths around the lakes and the trails beside the old rail line.
