About Lake City
Lake City sits on Lake Pepin, a wide part of the Mississippi, and its first settler, Jacob Boody, arrived in 1853. The town was platted in 1855, and its deep harbor made it a busy grain market. It is known as the birthplace of water skiing, which Ralph Samuelson tried on the lake in 1922. Today neighbors come out for Water Ski Days in June, bike rides around the lake, and a long season of fall festivals.
