About Cambridge
Cambridge began on October 15, 1847, when farmer Joseph Keyes filed plans for a village beside a dam on Koshkonong Creek. By the 1880s it had shops, hotels, a post office and about 700 people, and after a fire in 1890 the downtown was built back up by 1910, just as cars brought visitors to nearby Lake Ripley. In the 1980s and 1990s its potteries made it known for salt-glaze pottery, and the creek still runs right through the middle of the village. Today people bike and ski the trails at CamRock County Park, bring little ones to storytime at the library, and jump into icy Lake Ripley each February for the Dip for Dozer scholarship fundraiser.
