About Champlin
Champlin sits on the Mississippi River about 18 miles northwest of Minneapolis. The area's first lasting settlement was made by Charles Miles, and in 1859 the old township split into Champlin and Dayton. The town is named for Navy Commodore Stephen Champlin. It was a village from 1947 and joined with the township to form the city in 1971. Families go to the Mill Pond to fish, and each June the Father Hennepin Festival celebrates the town's history.
