About Clara City
Clara City grew up in 1887 as a station on the Willmar and Sioux Falls Railway, out on the prairie of Chippewa County. It is named for Clara Koch, the wife of one of the town's founders, and it became a city in September 1891. The town has five churches, a public library on North Main Street, and MACCRAY High School, shared with the nearby towns of Maynard and Raymond. Each summer, the weekend after the Fourth of July, people pour in for Prairie Fest with a parade, street dance, carnival, tractor pull and fireworks.
