About Montevideo

Montevideo sits where the Chippewa and Minnesota rivers meet, in a wide double river valley. Homesteaders came after 1862, railroads followed, and settlers from Norway, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Ireland built the town, which was incorporated in 1879. Locals call it the City of Parks, and a bronze statue of Uruguay's hero Jose Artigas stands on Main Street for its sister city. Each June neighbors celebrate that tie at Fiesta Days.
