About Clinton
Clinton is a small village in southern Rock County, near the old Norwegian Jefferson Prairie Settlement, and its people date their start to 1837. In 1856 two railroad crews raced to lay track through the area, and the spot where the lines met, called The Crossing near the south end of Allen Street, became the heart of the village. Its historic buildings still stand: an 1843 cobblestone house that the local historical society now keeps as a museum, a stone water tower from 1895 on the highest ground in town, and a 1913 brick village hall with a square tower. Today about 2,200 people live here, and families fill the library's story times and clubs and cheer on the Clinton Cougars.
