About Concordia
Concordia is a historic home neighborhood on Milwaukee's near west side, between 27th and 35th Streets and Wisconsin Avenue and Highland Boulevard. Its oldest house, built around 1851 for Wisconsin's first dentist, has a roof said to have been changed so its owner could watch the stars. Wealthy families built about 180 fine houses here between 1850 and 1930, and Concordia College sat at its heart until it moved to Mequon in 1982; its campus is now the Indian Community School. Today people tour its Victorian homes each June, and they pass the Tripoli Shrine Temple, a 1928 building with domes modeled on the Taj Mahal.
