About Cuba City
Cuba City's story starts in 1836, when two men bought 160 acres of government land in Grant County, and the first building went up in 1846. Settlers first chose the name Yuba City, found another place already had it, and picked Cuba City instead; it became a village in 1894 and a city in 1925, and later spread a little over the line into Lafayette County. It calls itself the City of Presidents for the presidential banners that line Main Street. The small high school is known well beyond town: it won a National Blue Ribbon in 2007, its girls basketball team has won more state tournaments than any other in Wisconsin, and the elementary and middle schools share a circular building people call the Round School.
