About Dundas
Dundas was laid out in 1857 by the Archibald brothers and their cousin, who built flour mills on both banks of the Cannon River and named the town after their home county in Ontario, Canada. Their mill was the first in the United States to make and sell patent flour, and its 'Dundas Straight' was once called the best flour in the country. Stone ruins of the 1870 mill still stand at the river's edge near a trailhead of the Mill Towns Trail, and the 1866 limestone Ault Store remains from the first business street. Today Dundas sits right next to Northfield, and it has grown from about 550 people in 2000 to more than 1,700.
