About Lonsdale

Lonsdale began in 1902, when a railroad company laid out a new town site and sold lots at a July auction. The first buildings were a saloon, a hotel and a livery stable, and a grain elevator opened beside the tracks. Some families from nearby Veseli even moved their houses over on skids to be close to the railway. The town was incorporated in 1903 with 84 people. Today it is a fast-growing town about 40 miles south of downtown Minneapolis with parks, trails and a nature preserve.
