About Faribault
Faribault began when Alexander Faribault set up a fur trading post on the Straight River in the 1830s and built the first frame house in Rice County in 1853. The town was platted in 1855 and grew on wheat, flour mills and a woolen mill. Its schools earned it the nickname Athens of the West, and it has more historic buildings than any other Minnesota city its size except Saint Paul. Today people come for the old downtown on Central Avenue, the woolen mill, the Paradise Center for the Arts and the nature center.
