About Edgerton
Edgerton began as Fulton Station on the railroad, whose first depot opened here in 1853, and it took the name Edgerton after the Edgerton brothers, a businessman and a railroad engineer. By the late 1800s it was the center of tobacco growing in southern Wisconsin, with as many as 52 tobacco warehouses, and it was known as Tobacco City U.S.A. Author Sterling North grew up here and set his book Rascal in the town, and his boyhood home is now a museum. Today families come out for Tobacco Days, the Sterling North Book and Film Festival in September, and the old brick storefronts on Fulton Street.
