About Fennimore
Fennimore takes its name from an early settler who went missing during the Black Hawk War, and it was once called Fennimore Center. From 1878 to 1926 a little narrow gauge train called the Dinky ran 16 miles from here to Woodman through the Green River Valley, longer than most such lines in Wisconsin. Today the railroad museum keeps a 1907 locomotive like the Dinky on its lawn, gives kids rides on a miniature train, and marks the start of the Dinky Bike Route. Banker Dwight T. Parker paid for the brick library in the 1920s, and in October 2026 it reopened after a big expansion. The city is also home to the main campus of Southwest Wisconsin Technical College.
