About Richland Center
Richland Center was founded in 1851 by Ira Haseltine of Vermont, who picked a spot on the Pine River for its water power and its place near the middle of Richland County, and it soon became the county seat. A homemade railroad spur, first laid with maple rails, reached the town in 1876, and it grew into a busy dairy and market town. Frank Lloyd Wright was born here in 1867, and his brick-and-concrete A. D. German Warehouse still stands downtown. The town's women's club led Wisconsin's fight for the vote in the 1880s and pushed to build the 1913 City Auditorium, which is a performing arts center today.
