About Jordan
Jordan began in 1853 when Thomas Holmes ordered a sawmill built, and the place was first called Holmes Mill. His brother William platted a town that was named Jordan City for the Jordan River. Two railroads came through between 1865 and 1880, and the brick shops built in those years still stand on Water Street, the best-kept 19th-century business district in Scott County. Breweries thrived here, and baseball is a long tradition; the town now has about 6,600 neighbors.
