About New Prague
New Prague was laid out in 1856 and named for Prague, the capital of Bohemia, because Czech-speaking settlers built the town. The railroad came in 1877, and a grain elevator and flour mill followed, which earned it the nickname Flour City. Its Czech roots are still easy to see in the twin-towered St. Wenceslaus church, which was dedicated in 1907. Each September the town holds Dožínky, a Czech harvest festival on Main Street with a car cruise and a parade of farm pride.
