About Kenosha
Kenosha sits on the Lake Michigan shore, and its name comes from Native words for the pike that once crowded into the rivers each spring. Settlers from New York reached Pike Creek in 1835, the village was called Southport for a time, and it became the city of Kenosha in 1850. For most of the 1900s the city built cars, from the Rambler and Nash to American Motors. When the old lakefront car plant closed, the land became HarborPark, with marinas, museums and a restored electric streetcar that loops through downtown. Today families walk the lakefront parks, visit the Civil War and Public museums, and go to summer concerts in the parks.
