About Pleasant Prairie

Long before settlers came, Native people camped along the old Lake Michigan shoreline here, and some of the earliest signs of people in Wisconsin have been found in Pleasant Prairie. Settlers arrived in the 1830s, and the town was created in 1838; by 1870 its Bain Station was a stop for a morning milk train that carried fresh milk to Chicago. After years of growing in the shadow of Kenosha, it became a village in 1989. Today families swim and skate at the huge RecPlex beside Lake Andrea, walk the wild Chiwaukee Prairie by the lake, and gather for the Harvest Fest and a January bonfire of Christmas trees.
