About Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant lies just west of Racine, about 30 miles south of Milwaukee. Settlers came in 1835, and in 1842 a small group of neighbors met to organize the Town of Mount Pleasant; a few cream-brick houses from those early years still stand. A crossroads called Mygatt's Corners, where Highways 31 and 20 meet today, had a church by 1858. The town voted to become a village in 2003, and today its best-known building may be Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, a round, saucer-shaped church people call the spaceship church.
