About Hastings
Hastings grew up where the Mississippi, Vermillion and St. Croix rivers meet. A fur trading post opened here in 1833, and the town was incorporated in 1857 and named the Dakota County seat. Its stone courthouse from 1871 is now City Hall, and General William LeDuc built his limestone mansion on Vermillion Street by 1865. People come today for the riverfront, the falls, the old downtown and summer events at Levee Park.
