About Maple Grove
Louis Gervais settled at Maple Grove in 1851, and by 1855 the little farm town had a church, a town hall and many homes. It was named for its large stands of maple trees, and syrup was a big early product. The Pierre Bottineau House, the area's first wood-frame house, from 1854, now stands in Elm Creek Park Reserve. Maple Grove became a city in 1974 and has grown fast since the highways came, so now people come for the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes, 13 named lakes, and the Maple Grove Days celebration each July.
