About Plymouth
Plymouth began as a Dakota camping place at the north end of Medicine Lake, and the first settler, Antoine LeCounte, built a cabin there in 1852. A mill and the first town grew up on Parkers Lake in 1855, and farming stayed the main work until the mid-1900s. The village of Plymouth formed in 1955 and the city grew into the seventh-largest in Minnesota, about 10 miles west of downtown Minneapolis. Today people use its lakes, 300 miles of streets and parks, and the summer concerts at the Hilde Performance Center.
