About Mendota Heights

Mendota Heights is a first-ring suburb just south of the Twin Cities, home to about 11,700 people, and it became a city in 1956. Its best-known place is Oheyawahi-Pilot Knob, a hilltop the Dakota people consider sacred. The 1851 Treaty of Mendota was made there, and the overlook looks out on where the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers meet. The city bought and now restores about 34 acres of it as oak savanna, with trails and three scenic overlooks.
