About Mishicot
Mishicot began when Daniel Smith built a sawmill on the East Twin River in 1844, and the village was founded in 1847. Smith named it for his friend Chief Mishicott, a leader of the Potawatomi people who lived here; the second T was dropped around 1950, when the village was incorporated. Settlers from Germany, Bohemia, Switzerland and Canada farmed the land, and by 1900 the village had six hotels, a grist mill and a brewery. Today families walk the Riverwalk and the Ice Age Trail through the Village Park, cross the river on the covered bridge, and turn out for the farmers market, the summer concerts and Pumpkinfest.
