About New Berlin

New Berlin's first settlers arrived in 1836, and in 1840 the young township took the name of founder Sidney Evans's hometown, New Berlin, New York; people here say it with the accent on 'BER.' It stayed farm country for a hundred years, and the little hamlet of Prospect Hill, settled mostly by New Englanders, built a Greek Revival church in 1859 that still stands on National Avenue. After World War II families moved out from Milwaukee, and the town became a city in 1959 and opened a large industrial park in 1964. Today the city counts 26 parks, an heirloom apple orchard next door to that old church, and a historical society park full of old farm buildings.
