About Muskego

Muskego takes its name from a Potawatomi word for the area that means sunfish, and the Potawatomi lived here before settlers came from New Hampshire and, by 1839, from Norway. For a century it was farm country around three lakes, and from 1861 an amusement park drew crowds to the south shore of Little Muskego Lake. The farms and crossroads like Tess Corners and Durham Hill became one city in 1964, and new homes have made it a quiet place to live near Milwaukee. Today families swim and camp at Muskego Park, the county's first regional park, watch the Waterbugs water ski show at Idle Isle Park on summer Wednesdays, and walk the trail that follows an old interurban rail line.
