About Northside

Madison's Northside is the north end of the city, home to about 22,500 people and the businesses they run. Its heart is Warner Park: the city took over a sandy Lake Mendota beach there in 1939, named for park leader Ernest Warner, and in the 1950s bought nearby farms and part of Castle Marsh to make a big park with a lagoon. The park now has a beach, a dog park, an accessible playground, a colorful picnic shelter and the ballpark where the Madison Mallards play summer baseball. Since 1993 the Northside Planning Council has brought neighbors together, helping build the Warner Park Community Recreation Center, starting the Northside Farmers Market and running FEED Kitchens for local food businesses.
