About Osseo
Osseo began in the 1850s on Bottineau Prairie, an open stretch named by the guide and fur trader Pierre Bottineau, and part of the settlement was laid out as Osseo in 1856. The town grew along an old trail between St. Paul and St. Cloud that became its main street, and the Great Northern Railroad came through in 1882. By the late 1920s Osseo was known for one of the biggest potato markets in the Northwest. Its 1915 steel water tower still stands and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. Today this small city of about 2,700 people gathers downtown for summer concerts and movies at the Boerboom Veterans Park bandshell and for the Lions Roar street fair and parade each September.
