About Paddock Lake
Paddock Lake is named for the Paddock family, three generations of whom came west from New York by covered wagon in 1838 and settled between the two lakes now called Paddock and Hooker Lakes. Dr. Francis Paddock, the area's first doctor, bought 281 acres in 1843, and the same year the first school was built here. From 1884 to 1942 the Old Settlers Club of Kenosha County gathered on the south shore each summer's end, and by the late 1920s families were building vacation cottages around the lake. The little lakeside hamlet broke off from Salem to become its own village in 1960, and today families swim at Hoag Park beach, fish from the piers, and walk the 3.4-mile Lake Walk all the way around Paddock Lake.
