About Union Grove
John E. Dunham built the first house here in 1838, on what is now Main Street. When the railroad came through in the 1850s, stores grew up around it, and in 1856 neighbors met to lay out a town. The name came from Governor Henry Dodge, who joined the name of the local Union School with a grove of bur oak trees on the west side of what is now Highway 45. Union Grove rebuilt after big fires on Main Street in 1904 and 1916, and the Graham Public Library opened in 1959. Today families come to the Sunday public market in Village Square Park, the Fourth of July parade down Main Street and the Racine County Fair just outside the village each July.
